Story
The Fall of the House of Usher : The story begins with an unnamed narrator who visits the house of his childhood friend, Roderick Usher. Usher is a wealthy nobleman who has become reclusive and withdrawn, and his house is in a state of disrepair. The narrator is concerned about Usher's health and well-being, and he agrees to stay with him for a while. As the narrator spends more time with Usher, he becomes increasingly aware of the strange atmosphere that surrounds the house. He hears strange noises and sees strange shadows, and he begins to suspect that there is something dark and sinister at work. One day, Usher tells the narrator that his sister, Madeline, is ill. He takes the narrator to see her, and they find her lying in a bedchamber, apparently lifeless. Usher tells the narrator that Madeline is dead, but the narrator is not convinced. He believes that Madeline is still alive, and that Usher is planning to do something terrible to her.
